CallVanessa Nuttall works as a freelance sound engineer working predominantly in radio, her greatest love. She has created a niche making sound effects for radio plays and specifically for the ‘longest running soap opera in the world’, BBC Radio 4’s The Archers.
Step into the fascinating audio world of radio where pictures are painted through the ears and learn how it is done in this entertaining talk and demonstration. Ever wondered how the sound of a calf being born is reproduced in The Archers? Or what secret device might lie behind the farmyard gates of Brookfield? Perhaps you might have heard Pat’s goat being milked, or Helen making artisan cheese in her dairy. All these sound effects have to be created and produced at the right time and in the right place as the actors perform their lines by a ‘Spot Effects Studio Manager’ …and that is Vanessa! Come & find out how she does her job and, perhaps even have a go. Plastic sheeting has been requested – it may be messy!
