CallThe Fugue & Groove trio comprises the dexterous and versatile talents of
Rich Hughes on piano
Simon Smith on bass and
Steve Street on drums
Individually they have performed throughout the UK and toured internationally, working alongside such varied artists such as Kenny Ball, Ringo Starr and Dave Stewart. They have performed at venues and festivals which include Umbria Jazz Festival, Lincoln Centre (New York), Ambassadors Theatre, Glastonbury Festival, South by Southwest and La Bâtie Festival (Geneva) amongst many others.
F&G have played together for many years and provide the rhythm section for award winning jazz soloists such as Alex Clarke, the violinists Ralph Allin and Sally Minchin. All three players bring with them a variety of stylistic influences making for a diverse and rich musical tapestry. Rich’s musical background in particular has straddled both classical and jazz styles of music. He had the idea to feature this cross-pollination of styles and formed the trio about a year ago.
Since then Fugue and Groove have performed at venues across the country to rapturous acclaim.Their programme consists of fresh and inventive arrangements of familiar classics such as ‘Meditation’ by Massenet, Mozart’s Turkish March’ and Dvorak’s ‘Humoresque’. Solos provide opportunities to display their individual versatility, invention and synergetic musical interaction. The music ranges from the lyrical to fast and driving swing and there will be melodies that everyone will recognise, albeit in disguise!
